Self-Assessment

Learning Objective #1: Examine how attitudes toward linguistic standards empower and oppress language users.

My paraphrase: See how peoples feelings towards standard language affects users of that language

Evidence of learning: I was really touched by the Amy Tan we did at the start of the year I think about it daily. I examine my own attitude towards linguistic standards now and I think that’s great. I feel similarly about the girl who spoke three dialects I really liked that.

My score 0-5: 4

Learning Objective #2: Explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations.

My paraphrase: Read and learn about a lot of different types of writing.

Evidence of learning: We definitely explored and analyzed a lot but only a specific type really got through to me, I liked all the narratives but once it got to slam poetry and stuff I fell off..

My score 0-5: 2

Learning Objective #3: Develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing.

My paraphrase: Plan out your essays and write better

Evidence of learning: I started making drafts and editing this semester, I never edit ever. I really really liked the instructor meetings too it’s really nice to hear my weak points since I’m so blind to them. Very constructive I really felt like this worked for me. It’s a 4 and not a 5 because nobodys perfect and I still have ways to go with planning, but revising and editing stuck with me.

My score 0-5: 4

Learning Objective #4: Recognize and practice key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations.

My paraphrase: Learn writing strategies to write better stuff

Evidence of learning: I think the only things I got from that was to stop abusing really and very, my favorite adverbs. And to do the two sentence summary thing. Those are very important and ik u taught us more but those are the ones that stuck with me.

My score 0-5: 2

Learning Objective #5: Understand and use print and digital technologies to address a range of audiences.

My paraphrase: Understand how to use your sources to appeal to more people.

Evidence of learning: I guess I used sources in the synthesis essay to appeal to people? But idk other than that I don’t think we really touched on that. (maybe we did sorry my memory sucks)

My score 0-5: 1

Learning Objective #6: Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate those sources for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias.

My paraphrase: Learn how to optimize ur search and find good sources

Evidence of learning: I learned a lot of strategies, I learned the specific way you type into google to find stuff. I got a new york times account that I use. I learned how to search through the ccny database.

My score 0-5: 4

***

Learning Objective #7: Compose texts that integrate a stance with appropriate sources, using strategies such as summary, analysis, synthesis, and argument.

My paraphrase: Use your sources and make an argument with them

Evidence of learning: I feel like we did this but I already like.. Did this. If I didn’t know how to do this before I would give it a five because u explained it so good but I like knew how to. I did learn how to do the 2 sentence summary though so that adds points.

My score 0-5: 2

***

Learning Objective #8: Practice citing sources accurately and consistently.

My paraphrase: Cite your sources good so you don’t commit plagarism.

Evidence of learning: I kinda did this? The 2 sentence summary and the purdue owl put-ons helped me a lot so thank you.

My score 0-5: 3
